5th graders have been working on identifying, writing and playing new rhythms. They have been studying one eighth note and two sixteenth notes combining to make one beat. (ti-tika and tika-ti) We have also been discussing how our speech can have a rhythm. “Baby Snail” or “Sea turtle” both have three sounds, but we have to listen to how we say it and what gets the emphasis to match it with the right rhythm. **Ask your student if they can write an eighth note with two sixteenths. They should also be able to recite some of our tongue twisters we do as warm-ups like “Peter Piper” or “Picky People.”
