3rd graders have been quite energetic this year! i have found that we need to do some dancing before starting class so they can get some energy out! ;) Right now we are learning about reading and writing notes on a staff to prepare for reading music and learning recorders!! Yes, the recorders are coming, so prepare your ears! Recorders and packets will remain in the music classroom while we are learning them, and then they will be sent home with students to continue on their own! I love to do another recorder unit in 4th grade, so don't let them lose those recorders!!
3rd graders have been working hard on learning many music skills through playing the recorder. Not only have they been learning to read and play notes properly, they have also been learning how to successfully give feedback to one another. They test with partners to see if they can earn their "belt" from their recorder karate packets. We have had one BIG problem though- Students are forgetting to bring their recorders and packets to class! That makes it very hard for them to do any practice or earn their belts. SOOO, I have decided to have students KEEP their packets in class, and I have uploaded the pages below if they would like to practice at home!! Please encourage students to practice at home and show you their learning on the recorders, but help them remember to put their recorders back in their backpacks!! THANK YOU!!
3rd graders in music have been working on showing the difference between steady beat and rhythm through movement. Students have also been working on playing and writing new rhythms. They have practiced identifying and writing dotted half notes and sixteenth notes. Ask your student if (s)he can explain our game Beat VS. Rhythm to you, and see if they can sing the song “Pass one Window, Tideo” to you. They should be able to tell you where the sixteenth notes are in the song.
I'm so excited about this year!! The music room has moved to a bigger room on the 2nd level of the school! All students have been learning about the new room and how we can make this year successful by following the music expectations of behavior and routines. Students come into the music room, sit in assigned seats on the risers, and SING! Here's a picture of our ROCKSTAR BEHAVIOR CHART where students are trying to move their class clip up the guitar to get to the top ROCKSTAR level. If they make it to the top, they earn music games of their choice!
Here's where you will get to read about what WCE 3rd graders are learning in music class! I'm super excited to start the 2014-2015 school year! Check back soon!
