Wow! I have been so impressed by our group of Kindergarteners this year! Last year, I got to go into the ECE classrooms and do mini-lessons, and it has made a huge impact! It's like I have advanced Kindergarteners! They have been learning their rhythms like ta's (quarter notes), ti-ti's (eighth notes) and rests. We are now moving into playing on xylophones and singing melodies using those rhythms!
Kindergarteners learn a lot about musical opposites. They have been learning about high and low sounds, loud and quiet sounds, and using their voices in different ways like whisper, talking, singing, and calling. See if they can sing for you our Grizzly Bear song where they sing very quietly and then loudly roar at the end! Kindergarten will be putting on a Specials Showcase Performance all about opposites on Thursday, March 26th at 6:30pm in the cafeteria, so mark your calendar now!!
One of my main goals with Kindergarten is to make sure they can keep a beat! We are working on all kinds of activities where students are moving to a steady beat. They are showing and identifying steady beat with pictures. Kindergarteners are also learning the difference between a note and a rest or sound and no sound.
I'm so excited about this year!! The music room has moved to a bigger room on the 2nd level of the school! All students have been learning about the new room and how we can make this year successful by following the music expectations of behavior and routines. Students come into the music room, sit in assigned seats on the risers, and SING! Here's a picture of our ROCKSTAR BEHAVIOR CHART where students are trying to move their class clip up the guitar to get to the top ROCKSTAR level. If they make it to the top, they earn music games of their choice!
Here's where you will get to read about what WCE Kindergarteners are learning in music class! I'm super excited to start the 2014-2015 school year! Check back soon!!
