ABOUT ME!
Hi! I'm Megan Stacy, and I am thrilled to be teaching music at Westerly Creek. Working at Westerly Creek has already proven to be a dream come true for me. I am married, and my husband and I have two dogs and a 90 gallon fish tank with about 75 little fish! We live near City Park in Denver.
I grew up in Colorado Springs, and I went to Cheyenne Mountain High School. I have been singing all my life, and I knew ever since elementary school that I wanted to be a music teacher. I traveled all around the world singing with the Colorado Springs Children's Chorale, and on those trips I realized how powerful music really is when it connects people from all over the globe. In high school, I starred in all the musicals and I was president of all the choirs. :) I have always adored children, too. In high school and college I would babysit, nanny and be around young children whenever I could. I was a camp counselor and volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club.
I earned my B.A. and master's degree at the University of Denver. Go Pioneers! I am so fortunate to have an education from the beautiful Lamont School of Music. I was even able to study abroad in New Zealand at the University of Otago and sang with a small traveling choir there as well. My B.A. is in classical vocal music performance with a minor in psychology, and my master's is for curriculum and instruction with a specialization of arts in education. After receiving my degrees, I taught for 5 years in Douglas County, which was a great experience. I did grade level programs and had a choir of 80, but I knew I wasn't at home. I am so happy to make the move to Denver Public Schools and Westerly Creek, where it already feels like home.
My goal as a music educator is to open students' minds to creativity and imagination. The music classroom is a social setting where students will sing, speak, play and create music, but they will also practice being productive citizens of society by learning to cooperate, collaborate, take risks, and communicate their own ideas. I hope I can inspire our students to love music, but more importantly, I hope I can foster a safe environment for students to feel they can express themselves and feel successful.

STUDENT QUOTES THAT REMIND ME WHY I LOVE TEACHING!
Kindergartener: "Mrs. Stacy, did you know I love everyone?"
Me: "What's wrong? Why are you crying?"
Kindergartener: "Nothing. I'm just so happy we are singing this song!"
Let's face it, Kindergarten quotes are the BEST....
(During TCAP testing) Kindergartener: "We have to be very quiet because the 1st graders are taking TEA CUPS!"
4th grader: "Our performance is pretty awesome. I don't think there's any way to make it shorter."
4th grader: "This song is from Mexico. I don't think you have heard it before, because it's from Mexico."
