4th Graders have been so fabulous this year and excited about music. I have a lot of great singers in 4th grade! We worked hard on rhythms like sixteenth notes and eighth notes. Now we are preparing for our performance called "Share the Love." They have had some great conversations about what it means to share the love with others who might need it in our community. We are singing two songs, "Love Can Build a Bridge" and "All You Need is Love." We are even learning another recorder song! Yes, I said recorders! Please have your students dig out those recorders and bring them to class for the next month!
As a rhythm evaluation, students were asked to write 4-beat patterns of rhythms in their rhythm turkey!
4th graders have been working on identifying, writing and playing new rhythms. Theyhave been studying sixteenth notes. We have also been discussing how our language can have a rhythm. Alligator has 4 syllables, so it is similar to 4 sixteenth notes on a beat (tika-tika). **Ask students if they can write sixteenth notes for you. They should also be able to sing our opening song for you, “Hey Ho Hi Hello.” We have been practicing singing this song in a round.
I'm so excited about this year!! The music room has moved to a bigger room on the 2nd level of the school! All students have been learning about the new room and how we can make this year successful by following the music expectations of behavior and routines. Students come into the music room, sit in assigned seats on the risers, and SING! Here's a picture of our ROCKSTAR BEHAVIOR CHART where students are trying to move their class clip up the guitar to get to the top ROCKSTAR level. If they make it to the top, they earn music games of their choice!
Here's where you will get to read about what WCE 4th graders are learning in music class! I'm super excited to start the 2014-2015 school year! Check back soon!
